Police reported that about 10 people were killed at a school on Tuesday in Sweden’s worst mass shooting. The suspected shooter is among the dead.
A gunman opened fire at a campus in Örebro, central Sweden, injuring many people, according to Roberto Eid Forest, head of the city’s police district.

At a press conference late Tuesday, Forest said authorities could not confirm the exact death toll as the investigation was still in its early stages.
Police stated that the suspect was not previously known to them and had no gang affiliations. They also said they did not believe the attack was terror-related. However, they did not disclose what type of weapon was used.
“We believe he acted alone,” said Roberto Eid Forest, describing the shooting as “extremely tragic, with many involved.”
“It’s a terrible event, exceptional—a nightmare,” he added.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, thanking the police during a Tuesday press conference. “Today, we witnessed brutal, deadly violence against completely innocent people—this is the worst mass shooting in Swedish history,” he said.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer, speaking alongside Kristersson, called the attack an “unspeakably sad tragedy.”

The shooting took place inside Campus Risbergska, an adult education school located on a campus that also houses other schools, including those for children.
Police were first alerted around 12:30 p.m. local time (6:30 a.m. ET), according to Roberto Eid Forest.
Jonas Claesson, the regional healthcare director, said six people were taken to the local university hospital, including five with gunshot wounds. Four underwent surgery, and two are now in stable condition.
